Dagger of Destiny

This project combines inspiration from various historical originals (primarily Baselard type daggers) with the mythological meaning of the Norns from Norse mythology to which this dagger belongs.

MYTHOLOGICAL MEANING:

Norns are, according to Norse mythology lower female goddesses. Among the most important of them are three judges: Urd (Fate), Verdandi (Becoming) and Skuld (What must be), which represent the past, present and future. Their job is to weave the Wyrd, which is the web of fate. This dagger represents an important and ritual tool of these lower goddesses, it serves them to ritually break the Wyrd, which ends the fate and also the life of the given person or being.

These Norns sit at the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil. Judge Skuld, together with the valkyries, selects the fallen soldiers after the battle and decides how the battle will turn out.

HISTORICAL INSPIRATION:

The inspiration for the basic shape of this project is mainly Bselard type daggers. In modern usage, the term Baselard is mostly reserved for a 14th-century type of I-handled dagger that evolved from the 13th-century knight's dagger.

SYMBOLISM:

The dagger's pommel, hilt and handguard bear the image of these three Norns, Urd (Fate), Verdandi (Becoming) and Skuld (What Must Be).

Silver hair of Norns on the pommel and hand guard transforms into the roots of the mighty Yggdrasil. The bronze components of the scabbard carry an ornamentation that symbolically represents the Wyrd ( Web of Fate ). On the front of the scabbard, a rare Nephrite is set in a silver frame, this type of Nephrite is called "Moss in the Snow" because of its combination of white and green tones. Jade embodies the five human virtues: wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty and respect.

In the center of the scabbard is a carved Wyrd symbol from Norse culture.

This symbol represents the connection between humans and everything else. It is a recurring motif in Norse mythology and is often used to depict the interconnectedness of all life, especially to symbolize the connection between humans and their gods.

The blade of this dagger is very symbolic, you can recognize several aspects in its shapes and patterns. Central fullers in the shape of roots, steel patterns in the style of annual rings, but also pale stars in the dark sky.

After all, part of this project, which represents a powerful tool of fate in the hands of the mythological Norns, is also a suitable balance, which creates a solid and very sharp blade in combination with the bronze components of the handle.
